Frequently asked Questions
At Sweet Life Nutrition, we do not accept insurance. This allows Amy and the client to have more control of the course of their journey. However, we will gladly provide a SuperBill (document with services rendered, medical coding, and costs) to submit to your insurance for possible partial or full reimbursement. Read through our FAQs to learn more about the most common questions in telehealth and nutrition services.
Do you have a physical clinic or are all sessions online?
Telehealth makes visits easy, convenient, and also minimizes overhead costs to keep session cost lower.
I do have a relationship with a local chiropractor’s office and utilize an office there periodically for those who prefer face to face visits for nutrition services.
How does Telehealth work for nutrition coaching visits?
Telehealth allows more convenience and more comfort for my clients. We each log into the secured, private virtual space using a computer or phone with a webcam and microphone. We discuss your health struggles and a plan to improve health on the 1st visit. On the 2nd visit and beyond we discuss what’s working and what isn’t so you can do what works best for you and get you through life’s hurdles.
Do you provide support between sessions?
Yes I do! I have secure messaging via my electronic medical record. You can message me any time. I can access it from my computer or my phone and will answer as promptly as I am able, no later than 24 hours (unless I am out of the office in which I will make that known).
Can you order/run labs?
Yes! Lab information can be so helpful to understand how to help you. I have access to running functional labs via Evexia Diagnostics. We can order pertinent testing, and either have blood drawn at a facility or have you collect things like saliva and urine in the comfort of your home. Any collection done at home can be mailed to the lab. I review the labs once they are done so we can tailor the approach to what your body needs.
Do I have to sign up for a special program?
No, you decide how many visits you need and how far apart. I do recommend at least 3 to 6 visits to really get to the root of problems and work on and tailor a personalized nutrition services approach that works for you.
Will I need to buy special bars, pills, etc?
No way! There are select situations in which supplements may be helpful, but whether you choose to do that or not is your choice as the client. I am much more of a food first type nutritionist and often food and mindset change is plenty.
I’m vegan/vegetarian. Can you still help me?
I absolutely can. In fact, I think it is very wise to see a nutritionist when you are a vegan/vegetarian so you can eat with the approach you prefer, but make sure nutritional gaps don’t occur. Getting enough protein and vitamin B-12 can be hard for vegans/vegetarians and I love to give tips and tricks to help round out that nutrition.
What do you specialize in?
I specialize in women’s health. My biggest specialty and passion is getting women out of diet culture and disordered eating habits. I teach balance. My motto is with any groceries or at any restaurant, I can teach you how to build or order a balanced meal. No more calorie counting, restricting, or depriving. Life and meals will be satisfying again. Learn more Amy Stenstrom: Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS)
What benefits can I expect from nutrition counseling?
There are so many. Eating will become intuitive and not a chore or source of deprivation. From that improved nutrition you will experience more energy, better sleep, better mental health, and more.
Will I lose weight working with you?
I don’t like to focus on that as it is rooted in diet culture. Even those who lose weight could be holding onto unhealthy body fat levels, or could be losing important muscle. I’d rather my clients focus on how they feel, blood tests, and body composition.
What if something happens and I can’t follow the recommendations, or something creates a barrier?
This is actually my favorite thing to work on with clients. Our days and weeks aren’t always predictable and sometimes we need to pivot and be flexible. I love teaching clients that we can always shift, pause, or amend what we plan to do for their health. And once you are deeper in your journey with me, pivoting in those situations is easier because you will have the tools.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time I do not. I am considering it in the future. This is why I have structured my prices to be affordable so that no matter if someone has insurance or not, they can afford to get nutrition counseling.
My insurance covers nutrition visits. Is it possible to get reimbursed for appointments I pay for?
If your insurance covers Medical Nutrition Therapy, then yes you could be reimbursed. In these situations, I send something called a SuperBill to you, the client. This shows the insurance the date you received care, what services, and how much you paid. A client can submit that to insurance and if they approve it, they will send the client a reimbursement check.
